Lorraine Guide: Mastering the Crux Knight

Lorraine, Crux Knight is Grand Archive's most popular and consistently competitive champion. She's been at or near the top of the meta since launch, and for good reason: her gameplan is linear, powerful, and extremely hard to disrupt without dedicated counter-strategies.

Understanding Lorraine's Core Ability

Lorraine generates Crux Spirit Tokens whenever she lands a hit with a Sword attack. These tokens are persistent — they stay between turns — and can be spent to fuel specific card effects or trigger Lorraine's built-in ability for bonus power.

The critical insight: tokens are bonus resources. Lorraine's attacks are individually strong without tokens. Tokens make already-strong attacks devastating.

The Two-Phase Gameplan

Phase 1 (Turns 1–3): Pressure and Token Generation

Play your cheap Sword attacks. Don't worry about maximising token use yet — focus on landing hits, building token count, and dealing incremental damage. Your opponent will often make blocking mistakes in the early game.

Target: 3–4 tokens by end of turn 3.

Phase 2 (Turns 4+): Token Conversion

Spend accumulated tokens to supercharge your attacks. At 3 tokens, Lorraine's bonus ability increases her attack power by +3 and adds Dominate to one attack per turn.

A 4-cost Sword attack + 3 tokens + Dominate = 9+ power that requires 2 full-hand blocks to stop.

Optimal Decklist Breakdown

Sword Package (20 cards)

  • 4× Crux Blade (core 3-cost Sword attack)
  • 4× Spirit Edge (2-cost fast Sword, go-again)
  • 4× Brilliant Blade (4-cost finisher, gains +2 power per token spent)
  • 4× Radiant Slash (5-cost bomb, cannot be blocked by a single card)
  • 4× Crux Nova (utility Sword that generates an extra token on hit)

Support Package (15 cards)

  • 4× Knight's Shield (2-cost defence reaction, 4 block)
  • 4× Valor's Call (1-cost, free if you have a token — draws a card)
  • 4× Chivalric Oath (utility card that recurs a Sword from graveyard)
  • 3× Guardian's Resolve (3-cost spell, tutors a Sword attack)

Utility and Tech (10 cards)

  • 3× Blazing Conviction (can't be blocked by Sword-class characters)
  • 3× Fortify the Line (counter to opponent's attacks during their turn)
  • 4× Crux Surge (generates 2 tokens on hit instead of 1 — must include)

Memory Configuration

  • 4× Class Memory (Lorraine-specific, provides +1 to Sword attacks)
  • 6× Basic Memory

Matchup Analysis

vs. Merlin

Role: Beatdown. Merlin needs turns to assemble his combo. Every turn you spend not attacking is a gift to him. Apply maximum pressure. Use go-again attacks to force multiple blocks.

Target: Kill him before turn 7. If he reaches turn 7 with a setup board, the game is very difficult to win.

vs. Diana

Role: Beatdown/Mirror. Diana's arrow setup phase is her weak point. Pressure her aggressively while she's tapping mana on arrows she hasn't fired yet.

Watch out for: Diana's delayed arrows are on a timer. If you don't end the game before they deploy, the reverse pressure can be overwhelming.

vs. Rai

Role: Beatdown. Race his float setup. A Rai who successfully builds a float turn can rebuild his board entirely. Don't give him a quiet turn.

Advanced Techniques

The Token Bait

Hold a token you don't need, letting your opponent believe a power turn is coming. They may over-block your medium attack. Then spend the token on the following turn when they're tapped out.

Two-Attack Split

Rather than one giant attack, sometimes the correct line is two 5-power attacks. This forces two blocks and depletes more of your opponent's hand than one massive swing.

Graveyard Recursion Timing

Chivalric Oath's recursion is strongest when deployed immediately before your power turn, not during setup. Time it to guarantee your finisher is live when you need it.

Lorraine rewards proactive, confident play. If you're hesitating on attack decisions, you're playing her wrong.
